Actor Pedro Pascal has publicly criticized J.K. Rowling following her support for a controversial U.K. Supreme Court ruling that defines "woman" in the Equality Act based on biological sex—a decision widely regarded as anti-trans. Rowling celebrated the verdict by posting a photo of herself smoking a cigar with the caption, "I love it when a plan comes together," referencing a line from The A-Team .
In response, Pascal commented on an Instagram video by activist Tariq Ra’ouf, who called for a boycott of Harry Potter content due to Rowling's stance. Pascal labeled Rowling's actions as "heinous LOSER behavior" and agreed with Ra’ouf's description of her support as "awful disgusting SHIT".
Demonstrating his support for the transgender community, Pascal wore a "Protect the Dolls" t-shirt at the London premiere of Marvel's Thunderbolts. The shirt, designed by Conner Ives, supports Trans Lifeline, a nonprofit aiding trans individuals in crisis
Pascal has been an outspoken advocate for trans rights, especially since his sister, Lux Pascal, came out as a transgender woman in 2021. Earlier this year, he stated, "I can't think of anything more vile and small and pathetic than terrorizing the smallest, most vulnerable community of people who want nothing from you, except the right to exist".
Other public figures have also criticized Rowling's stance. Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan shared an article condemning Rowling's response to the ruling and commented, "Keep your new 'Harry Potter' lads. Wouldn’t touch it with a 10-foot pole".
Rowling's comments have reignited debates about her influence and the future of the Harry Potter franchise, with growing calls for boycotts and increased scrutiny from both fans and fellow celebrities.
